Hounslow Homes, in partnership with United House Ltd, A2 Dominion Housing Group and the London Borough of Hounslow have completed the first four (of five) phases of the project which saw the construction of much needed new homes. The remaining properties currently under construction will be put up for low cost home ownership and will be completed by the summer.
The area was chosen as there were four blocks at Beavers Lane that had significant structural problems that would have been very expensive to try to repair.
The majority of the costs for the project came from the private sector through the sale of new homes, £5.6 million from the Area Renewal Fund and £2.5 million from the Council. To bridge the funding gap created through the falling price in house sales experienced nationally, Hounslow Homes successfully bid for a grant from the Homes & Community Agency.
Improvements carried out included:
- Demolition of four blocks with 72 dwellings
- Construction of new homes that are a mixture of flats and house including 94 new affordable homes for rent and low cost home ownership
- Improved lighting, parking and boundaries designedvto reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
In total, the project delivered 64 affordable rented properties, along with 30 shared ownership properties and 96 properties for sale.
