Trading Places

Many of the councils' properties are currently underoccupied, and larger accomodation for families is in short supply. The Trading Places scheme encourages tenants in properties with spare rooms they no longer need to “trade down” into a smaller home.

As well as a high priority for a move, generous financial incentives are also available. For downsizing to a smaller property, £1000 is awarded for every bedroom given up by the tenant.

For example, if you move from a 4 bedroom home into a one-bedroom home, you will receive £3000 to spend just as you wish!

Rooms to spare?

If you are living in a property with bedrooms that are not in use and would like to move to a smaller property that better suits your needs, contact the Customer Service Centre or visit your local Housing Office to request a Transfer Application form.

Once we receive your application form, you will be registered on Locata the choice based letting scheme. Locata will send you a welcome pack with your registration number and bidding information, and the recent issue of Locata magazine for you to start looking for your new home.

If you have any questions about Trading Places or moving from one property to another, contact the Customer Service Centre or visit your local Housing Office for advice and information.

Please note, any rent arrears outstanding on your account will be deducted from the total incentive payable.
